On a personal note I would like to say that I have worked with the LaCie FireWire devices are they are really cool. They now feature what they call the "d2 case" which is basically a giant heat sink so the drives don't require a noisy fan. LaCie does also produce the 52x media if so desired but that might be going a little overboard. The only downside to the new cases is that LaCie drives went from USB 2.0/FireWire to just FireWire or just USB 2.0.
