JOURNAL: Fungie½ (Daniel McCarthy)

  • Homie say what? 2005-08-03 16:25:51 "You actually have right, it's rare to see old style videos nowadays, this because probably I think that a video without effects, it is not something that can be called a creation, a video without effects is a video that is only a music with cuts of an anime."

    Wow.
    Um.
    I'm screwed.

You see, I've always thrown a hissy-fit when it comes to effects, because the majority of the videos that I've watched either a) don't use effects well, or b) use too many effects, and thus confuse the viewer. So, I don't use them, better safe than sorry.

Actually, correction, I have seen videos with good effects. "Versailles Paradise" by WalterScott and "Insomnia" by Janzki are good examples.

But apparently, I don't make AMVs anymore. I just make "a music with cuts of an anime." So, who's with me on starting "www.amusicwithcutsofananime.org"? Anyone? Didn't think so. Because I still think that they're AMVs.

I'd like to think that we haven't fallen into the realm that effects are neccessary to make a good video, or even a video at all. Some of us are far too simplistic with what we do, and can tell a story without jazzing it up with lens flares, blurs, shaky screens, and masking galore. No offense to those who have.

    Hm. Interesting.
  • Okay? 2005-07-31 13:11:52 I would like to know what is up with people's fascinations about cussing people out online. Does it empower you? Does it make you feel like the stronger person in the end? I'm very confused and would like some enlightenment.

No new AMV progress, sorry. I'm trying here. Boku no Sexual Harassment video is still on, as well as "Violins", but the Utena video has been decided against. It'll be replaced by a Kizuna video, once all the DVDs come out.

On the brighter side of life, my Kozue costume is pretty much all set. Got my wig yesterday which looks very nice, and I just need to make the breasts and get a bra, and I'll be all set. My first cross-play is almost complete.
  • It's been over 2 years since I've updated. Whoa. 2005-07-05 15:22:20 Being a member of this site for over 3 years now, I'm finding it hard to actualy think about the time I've spent here. Let's see... I've made several AMVs, most of which are very poor. A lot of them used poor quality footage, or I just really didn't care about them. To this date, I haven't spent more than a week on one single video. I get bored easily. What can I say? Pretty much every video I've made has a shoujo or shounen-ai theme underneath of it. Again, big surprise. What more can you expect from a gay male? Stereotyping again, whoops. But seriously, I don't know anyone expecting a heart-stopping Naruto action video from me. And look at that, there's a Naruto banner staring me in the face. What is up with that series? I'll have to borrow it from someone if I keep hearing all this hype about it.

Back to AMVing, over the past year, I've made no attempt to make an AMV. I've had several ideas, but nothing has ever been acted upon. And now that it's summer, I'm preparing to start working on some videos again. Yaoi-con is coming up, so I'm going to start on my Boku no Sexual Harassment video, tenatively called "Back and Forth". I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to balance out the love-trinagle of Mochizuki, Honma, and Fujita with the sex scenes. I think I'm going to leave out most of the sex scenes not between Mochizuki and Honma since they're more graphic than the love scenes and don't quite add to the general plot. I also am getting ready to start an Utena Movie video. It's mainly just an attempt to show the crazyness of the movie. That'll be fun. My last project of the summer will be an Oniisama E... video that I've been wanting to do for years now. The project title for now is "Violins", but I think it's too simple. We'll see. I think it'll be one of my better works.

To be honest, AMVs don't really interest me as much as they used to. I watch the occasional video, and I think some videos lately are quite good (Scandia's "Oscar's Revelation [New and Improved Version]" has been on repeat for a while), but aside from that, I get bored with a lot of them and have found myself more critical. I'm not sure what this means. Possible retirement? Maybe. But if I do, I'm not going to make a big thread about on in the General AMV forum talking about how much the org means to me, but just simply walk away. It's not a big deal. This is a hobby, to me at least. I don't need this site to get on with my life.

So, if any of this has interested the two of you who read my journal, I'll most likely keep up with what little AMV progress I make in my LJ (http://www.livejournal.com/~fungie), so feel free to stop by every once and a while. Hope everyone is having fun with their current projects.
  • LJ 2003-03-07 16:21:03 I got a live journal! w00t!

It's probably where most posts will be from now on, but occasionally I'll pop up in here!
  • It goes around the world just la la la la la... 2003-02-17 16:42:19 Katsucon was actually very interesting. Here's the report:

    Saturday
    ---------

I arrived at the hotel at around 9:30 and went inside to find Iserlohn downstairs. So I said "Hi" and he showed me were the registration place was. However, I was *completely* not happy with the registration. I waited in line a good 45 minutes to an hour before I was registered. This was due to other problems.

In any case, I ran downstairs to try and catch the last of the AMV contest and only got to see the last video, Kusoyaro's "Self-Titled." While it is a good video, I had seen it before, so it wasn't as breathtaking as it was the first time around. Oh well.

Afterwords, I saw Ashyukun because he had his Azumanga Daioh boshi on, so I ran up to him and handed him one of my CD's, a CD of famous Kevin Caldwell videos, and the Azumanga Daioh HK DVD 1 as he wanted to see how the quality on it was. Then I saw Vic and bought one of his really cool DVD's and got the Puni Puni Poemi digisubs from him that I need for my next video. Very cool ^^

We decided to meet up in the front lobby so I hung out a bit with SSGWNBTD, Iserlohn and Senta. Afterwords I felt kinda pushed away so I went to say "Hi" to my mom. Amazingly I gave her some of my CD's to give away, and she did! Whoa!

Once everyone finally got to the lobby, we all set out to the diner across the street. This consisted of myself, Iserlohn, VicBond007, his friend Rob, Ashyukun, Senta, SSGWNBTD and Waldo. After we had an interesting go around with the waiter, everyone began to eat, which was fun. All I had was a hot chocolate, mainly due to the fact that the food didn't look terribly good. But everyone thought otherwise. <shrugs> Oh well.

The funniest thing that happened was when 2 fangirls came up to Vic and asked him for his autograph. I really just wanted to start laughing, but girls will be girls. In any case, more fangirls came in and they bought the rest of the DVD's he had on him. Freaky....

In any case, we all headed back to the hotel, and I was freezing my ass off. After getting a good laugh of Vic almost running into a poll, we got back to the hotel, and we all went our seperate ways.

At this point, I decided to see what I could find in the Vendor's Hall. I picked up a Chobits pencil board and Battle Athletes Victory Vol. #7 on DVD. Then I picked up Vampire Princess Miyu OVA Vol. #1 at the AnimEigo table, and thought about getting Vol. #2, but decided not to. Also, after watching Rinny's "Unstoppable" video I picked up Angel Sanctuary on DVD. Overall alot to watch. ^^

Around 2:45, my mom and I went to McDonalds to grab something to eat. I LOVE chicken nuggets so I had some with french fries and a chocolate milkshake. Yuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmm.

At 3:30 I ran into the main events room for the AMV awards. It was really cool! Most of the awards went to Vic's "Cowboy BeBop 007" video, which did deserve it. The only award I would've changed was the "Gendo, Son of God" video. I thought it should've gone to "AMO" or "Bravo Drano." <sighs> I also think that Rinny Wilson's "Unstoppable" was quite good and should've won something. After the awards, I said my goodbyes and headed home.

    Con Rating......8 out of 10.
