The idea for this video came to while being forced to listen to the song used at work last Christmas. It was on loop, and whiles guests only had to hear it maybe once or twice while they were around, those of use working had to hear it many, many, many times per day. Being a music first type of editor, my mind searched for an appropriate anime. It found such a contender in the relationship between Utena and Anthy in Revolutionary Girl Utena.
For those of you unfamiliar with Wicked, it is the story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz. The wicked witch of the west, Elpheba, and the good witch of the north, Glenda, were roommates in college. They start out enemies, but they become frinds. What struck me as appropriate for Utena and Anthy was the fact that both Glenda and Utena take their roommates under their wings, so to speak, in the ways of socializing. Furthermore, both Anthy and Elpheba are far more than they seem.
I began work on ths video almost immediately after making the connection last Christmas. I worked very heavily over the holiday season, completing a large chunck of the work. I continued to peck at it during my last semester of college. However, working in politics during a campaign year meant that I could not continue working on it during many of the summer months. When my candidate lost his primary, and before I had another job, I spent nearly every waking hour finishing it up.
I have since gotten another job within politics and this is the first chance I have had to put it up, even though it premiere in the Anime Weekend Atlanta 12 Professional Contest.
