  • Comments: Wow. I worked on this video for maybe a year and a half before it was finally done. Of course, with massive breaks of months between working on it, but I spent a lot of effort on getting this one perfect. This is one of my absolute favourite anime shows ever, so buying the DVD boxset for footage to make the AMV was no problem. Of course, I got the song idea from watching 'Kill Bill', which has a similar idea to it, so if you've seen that then you might notice the link. I thought it was an interesting match to have Nancy Sinatra's song since it's so serious and melancholy and when I saw VicBond007's 'Requiem for Excel' I was inspired to create a serious AMV like it.
If you havn't seen Excel Saga, you really won't understand the crazyness of trying to make a serious video.

Anyway, it took me ages but I'm very happy with the result.

Some people are a bit confused as to whether it's meant to be a comedy or a sad sentimental drama, but I answer that it's melancholy. It came out exaclty as I planned (and somewhat better ^_^). This was a big project for me, I used Adobe Premiere for the first time (and probably the last >.>), which was a step up from my old copy of ULead 6.5 or whatever, so I had to learn a lot of new things.

The hardest part was probably synching the guitar to the music. If you thought lip-synching was hard, try synching an intrument >.>

The hardest part in production (apart from Adobe being stupid), was trying to fit in so much into such a short song! Some great footage had to be sacrificed.. at some points I was able to jam in a lot of visual with cross-fade though, so hopefully that comes through on repeat viewings.

I think my favourite piece of editing was between 1:20 and 2:00, with the fading into and out of shadows, showing inside Excel's mind.

This video has brought me close to tears on more than one occasion, and the ending is still extremely sad for me T_T

Anyway, this is my tribute to my favourite comedy crazy anime ever, Excel Saga; I hope you enjoy it.

PS. I threw in the dating-sim parts at the beginning and end as a self-parody. Make what you will of it, I thought it was wholly appropriate if you confine the video within a dating game ^_~
