  • Comments: My Online Iron Chef 3 vid for round 3 up against MeriC. I won but barely. Meri's done some great speed editing. It was very hard to edit to this song using Metropolis. I mainly looked for every scene with a gun in it to try to match the old west shootout style of the music.

    Translated lyrics: http://www.animelyrics.com/jpop/shakkazombie/siroiyaminonaka.htm

I edited the song down to include the intro, outro and only one section per rapper from the middle of the song. My first audio cut is at 00:21:06 and it jumps to 01:09:20 in the original song. This is an odd place to cut the song because it jumps to another sentence with the same cadence but different words: "white darkness" and "black water". This was completely unintentional, but I now find it funny. The next cut is at 01:06:21 in my vid and it jumps to 03:28:06 in the original. This cut around the weird break down at 2:22 with the kazoos. It's a fun part of the song, but it would have taken too long to match up well. Also, reading through the lyrics now, this song has a lot more in common with Metropolis than cowboys and donuts.

    Spoilerz!
For lip syncs I used the Protoman knock-off character as the younger-sounding rapper. He's sort of a bratty rebel in the movie and has a gun in a bunch of scenes. For the second rapper's part I used the tan business guy because it worked really well. Every chance I get to make an ultra tan guy with blond hair and a huge nose rap, I take. The video from 0:58 to 1:05 is meant to be tan guy dissing the other rapper for cross-dressing (in the movie disguising himself) because the lyrics sound like "can't deny". I'm not sure if the dissing comes across very well. If I had more time, I would have made the part with him taking off the wig longer and moved it to slightly later in the vid. I would also title the video Can't Deny.

The rest just played off of "hunt down", which isn't what they're saying even though it sounds exactly like that. They're saying handan which means judgment. Video at 1:29 going to black for half a second could have been better. I guess the beat there is artistic, implied action.

I used an extremely quick and dirty lip sync method in this vid: find when someone opens their mouth and razor there, find when they close their mouth for a while and razor before they close it, use the rate stretch tool to fit that section to the length that they're talking. That's it. No copy and pasting frames for syllable accurate sync. :P

My favorite parts of the video are 0:05 to 0:08 (which is at 40% speed) and the "AH!" scene between 1:19 and 1:21.
