Katamari Cromartie stemmed from originally discussing with someone why Cromartie is not often used in AMVs. The biggest reason we concluded was that the show really features almost no animation, most all the images are static and use a lot of quick cuts to things with no rhyme nor reason.

That said one thing that always stuck with me in Cromartie was the fact that the most bizzare thigns appear throughout the episodes for no reason and often characters don't acknowledge them. Having recently played Katamari Damacy (one of the best games on the PS2 IMO) I realized the absolute crack-enduced euphoria it creates is identical to taht of Cromartie high school. So I figured I'd redo the opening using Cromartie.

I hit a snag in production though when the CD for the game arived and I found out it did not have a version of the opening cut for the lenght as it was used in the game. The joke wouldn't last that long and I didn't have enough footage to do a whole 5 minute video to taht song. As a result I went the "hell project route."

I took bits of each of a handful of Katamri songs and made mini videos to each of themeach focused on a specific character or episode. It worked pretty well for the most part with a few being scrapped along the way due to a lack of a character showing up enough or an idea that just didn't play out to my liking. All the while the video builds up to the inevitable conclusion of the Katamari theme being the most complex video as the big finale.

However I don't much chare for when a Hell video is jsut clips so I needed a binding factor to put it all together. To this end the "What song was that" episode was the best fit, where I could act as if the characters heard the Katamari thme (which does get stuck in yoru head) and keep comign up with the wrong Katamari song in order to remember the original.

I personally love this video amongst my other works.
