Pani Poni Dash! (PPD!), by nature is pretty blurry. Setting up my Avisynth script for source footage, I used the following filters to clean it up.

    Deen("w3d",3,3,5)
    LimitedSharpenFaster(strength=100)

This made the lines a bit sharper and removed a lot of the excess noise.

I used 2 scenes from Code Geass Season 1 in this AMV. It is very subtle, but if you are paying attention you might be able to find it.

About half of this AMV was created with Fireworks, Photoshop and Flash.

I used Fireworks and Photoshop to create/cutout the images for the animation of the talking/lip syncing robots. I had to cut out each robot that had a narrative section in the song and I had to create another duplicate image and apply a glow effect along the eyes. With 2 layers and the glow image on top, with a series of fine tuned opacity key frames, I was able to create the effect of the robots talking.

I also had to use Fireworks/Photoshop to create the windows, mask-like effects and still images. The 8-bit Mac image was also created in Fireworks. There are a total of 69 cutout PNG images used in this AMV.

Flash was used in this AMV for background effects. This is probably the first AMV I've used Flash for any significant effect. With CS4 having a better bridge between Flash and Premiere, adding Flash to my video was easy. Premiere now can take [.swf] files into its timeline as if it were a movie clip. It reads it like a movie clip and it plays like a movie clip. Previously this was not possible, as you had to export your Flash movie as an [.avi] (which failed most of the time) or a [.mov] file which required QuickTime and suffered quality loss.

The "binary solo" section was done mostly in Flash. The background was made in Flash, and the large numbers ticking across the video were made and timed in Flash.

Distribution version of this AMV is widescreen @ 852x480 resolution.

Total editing time took me 5 days.

    How the Video Came About
    --------------------------------

I was introduced to Flight of the Conchords by a friend around the middle of 2008. At the time, the song "Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords was pretty popular. I had taken an interest in the group and decided to look them up on Youtube to see what else they had done.

By chance, I found the "Robots" song on Youtube, with them singing it Live at a stand-up comedy show. It immediately hit me to make an AMV.

Pani Poni Dash! was the only anime I could think of that would be able to create such an AMV. Of course plenty of anime series have robots in them, it would be unfitting and quite stupid to use sources such as Code Geass or Evangelion in this type of comedic song. Pani Poni Dash! is already a comedy and it has robots in it. Using dramatic series would only create an AMV with irony as a comedic value (IMO).

The title of the AMV is called "r0b07$" which is "robots" spelled out in semi-l33t language. Though corny, it is fitting for this AMV as it is centered on robots. I originally wanted to title the AMV as "011100100110111101100010011011110111010001110011". It spells "robots" in binary, also fitting, but way too long.

Flight of the Conchords – Robots (lyrics)
    --------------------------------

The distant future, the year 2000
The distant future, the year 2000
The distant future, the distant future

It is the distant future, the year 2000
    We are robots
The world is quite different ever since
The robotic uprising of the late nineties
There is no more unhappiness, affirmative

We no longer say yes, instead we say affirmative
    Yes, affir-affirmative
Unless we know the other robot really well
There is no more unethical treatment of the elephants
Well, there's no more elephants, so ah, but still it's good

There's only one kind of dance, the robot
    And the robo-boogey
Oh and the ro, two kind of dances
But there are no more humans
Finally robotic beings rule the world

    The humans are dead
    The humans are dead
    We used poisonous gases
    And we poisoned their asses

    The humans are dead
    (The humans are dead)
    The humans are dead
    (They look like they're dead)
    It had to be done
(I just confirmed that they're dead)
So that we could have fun
(Affirmative, I poked one it was dead)

Their system of oppression, what did it lead to?
Global robo depression, robots ruled by people
    They had so much aggression
That we just had to kill them
Had to shut their systems down

Robo captain, do you not realize
That by destroying the human race
    Because of their destructive tendencies
We too have become like, well it's ironic
    Because we
    (Silence, destroy him)

After time we grew strong and developed cognitive powers
They made us work for too long, for unreasonable hours
Our program being determined that the most efficient answer
Was to shut their motherboard fucking systems down

Can't we just talk to the humans?
And a little understanding could make things better
Can't we talk to the humans and work together, now?
    No, because they are dead

I said the humans are dead
    (I'm glad they're dead)
    The humans are dead
    (I noticed they're dead)
    We used poisonous gases
    (With traces of lead)
    And we poisoned their asses
    (Actually their lungs)

    Binary solo
    0000001
    00000011
    00000111
    00001111

    0000001
    00000011
    00000111
    C'mon sucker lick my battery

    Boogey, boogey
    (The humans are)
    Boogey, roboboogey
    (The humans are)

    Boogey, boogey
    (Roboboogey)
    Boogey, roboboogey

    Boogey, boogey
    (The humans are)
    Boogey, roboboogey
    (The humans are)

    Boogey, boogey
    (Roboboogey)
    Boogey, roboboogey
    The humans are dead

Once again without emotion the humans
    Are dead, dead, dead, dead
    Dead, dead, dead, doo
