This is a amv that I made for AWA's 2009 Expo competition and New York Anime Festival's 2009 AMV competition . It took me almost 4 months of planning, storyboarding, and editing; and I actually managed to complete it an entire week before AWA's deadline. And although I say this about most of my amvs, I really think that this is my best one yet. This amv is also full of many different firsts for me. This is my first amv that uses DVD quality footage, my first to use audio that I purchased from iTunes, my first to be primarily edited with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro 9.0, my first to use a mask/ cookie cutter effect/ tool (although, it is completely unnoticeable), my first one to be completed an entire week before its deadline, and my first AMV to win a AMV contest {New York Anime Festival (NYAF) 2009 Best Drama AMV}. Anyway, I really hope everyone enjoys this.

I love how this song fits Clannad so nicely. Not exactly perfect, but it is still a very good fit. The part of this amv that I completed first was actually the middle {2:37-3:48}. And then, I built and molded the rest of the amv around it. When I first heard the lyric where Rob Thomas say's "She will be all right, just not tonight", I immediately knew that I wanted to make a Clannad amv where Nagisa dies at that moment.

Also, I intentionally timed the words "light and night" to specific moments of the series that reflect those words. And just like those two words, I felt that the happy but melancholic feel of Clannad was a great contrast to the sad but uplifting feeling of the song.

At first, I wanted to revolve this amv around Nagisa's and Ushio's tears (mother and daughter), but halfway through, I decided that I would not focus too strongly on tears untill the very end of the amv. And that's when I realized that Ushio would be a great focal point for the end of the movie. So I intentionally timed her saying "No more" at 3:53. I want to leave my audience with the feeling that Tomoya (the father/ husband) is talking about not only his daughter's tears or "diamonds on the floor", but also his own. I wanted to add the scene from the series where Ushio tells her father about her grandmother's rule that "the only place you can cry in in your father's arms", but the length of the song restricted me from doing so.

And also, I'm really glad that I found the quote that i decided to use as the ending of the video.

"Tears are words that the heart can't express"

    Song Lyrics
Oh what the hell she says
I just can't win for losing
    And she lays back down
    Man there's so many times
    I don't know what I'm doin'
    Like I don't know now

By the light of the moon
    She rubs her eyes
Says it's funny how the night
    Can make you blind
    I can just imagine
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
But if she feels bad then I do too
    So I let her be

    And she says oooh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
Cuz I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win it's
Hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down

She sits down and stares into the distance
    And it takes all night
And I know I could break her concentration
    But it don't feel right

By the light of the moon
    She rubs her eyes
Sits down on the bed and starts to cry
And there's something less about her
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
So I sit down and I cry two
    But don't let her see

    And she says oooh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
Cuz I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win it's
Hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down

    She shuts out the night
And tries to close her eyes
    If she can find daylight
    Then she'll be all right
    She'll be all right
    Just not tonight

    And she says oooh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
Cuz I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win it's
Hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down
