Comments:
For the first time (well, not including the one IC AMV I did) I used more than 1 anime serie for an AMV. After 2 months of everyday editing it was finally done at 25th of May 2010. And all of this with one goal in mind - participation in the Japan Expo 2010 AMV Contest.
1. General stuff:
The idea for the amv was born somewhere in the second half of March and at that point I started collecting anime titles that would fit the whole "anime characters at the beach" concept. There is no "story" like you see but there is a general "theme" that fills the amv. I do not think I need to mention what that theme is. Just like in Spanish Wolf AMV
I used "mini-stories" thing for the AMV. I tried to make a connection between 2-5 scenes to create a "mini-story" with mixing different titles at the same time. There are a few AMVs about summer out there and some of them are really cool but I wanted to create a bit more of an interaction between anime characters here - I'm not completely satisfied in this aspect but I do believe it looks "good" at least.
2. Ugh, working with many series:
First of all I need to say thank you to a lot of people I have bothered with this project (ho ho ho, you are probably mentioned somewhere in the bottom of this page ;D). Like I said in the beginning, I never worked with so many titles at the same time so I had to organize myself properly, read a bit about ARs and stuff and ask people about it (ok, I bothered mirkosp the most with it). The majority of the sources was 16:9 but there were a few titles with 4:3 AR and I didn't want to abandon the footage from them so resizing up was the only option. I prepared more material then I could ever use but I'm glad I did.
There will probably be people who will complain a bit about Golden Boy scenes - well, this is an old anime so it's obviously stands out. I did a bit of color correction here and there but meh - in the end I'm happy I used it since it's one
of my fav. comedies of all time :D.
I was planning on using Great Teacher Onizuka, School Rumble and Minami-ke as well but in the end I didn't get the chance to do so.
3. Tech stuff:
AMV was created in Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. The whole AMV is not only my biggest project because of the longer anime list but also because of the work I put into this. Putting aside the whole masking, there is a whole pile of effects that were used but they are more of a "behind the scenes" effects to make the footage more acceptable to the viewers eyes. I tried to mix titles similar in graphic style but only tried - mini-stories were more important ;3.
Playing with lightning, color correction, masking, masking out the moving lips while character is running moving his/her head, creating shadows from scratch. Some people do that everyday but well - I don't. That is why everything took time and effort. It might be easier for me next time.
I also noticed that people have different opinions about the camera thing in the end. I did like the concept but I'm aware some people will not like it as much as I do.
4. Lyrics. Tried to follow them as much as I could but I have to admit they aren't that ambitious in the first place so it wasn't that hard:
Get your motor runnin'
California Interstate 1
Pacific Coast Party
If you got to work today
Get yourself a new vocation
Pacific Coast Party
You don't have to mind father time mother nature
Get yourself in line take your time
And watch it slip away
Just quit your bitchin' bite your tongue
Save it for a rainy day, son
Pacific Coast Party
Get your ticket pack your bags
Come and join the celebration
Pacific Coast Party
If you wanna find peace of mind come and get it
Get yourself in line take your time
And watch it slip away
Pacific Coast Party
CHORUS
Hey I heard somebody say work harder than you play
But I never missed a single day's party
Word I never heard a word I turned the other way
Pacific Coast Party
INSTRUMENTAL (GROOVY)
You don't have to mind father time mother nature
Get yourself in line take your time
And watch it slip away
CHORUS
Hey I heard somebody say work harder than you play
But I never missed a single day's party
Word I never heard a word I turned the other way whooooowooo
Pacific Coast Party
Hey I heard somebody say work harder than you play
But I never missed a single day's party
Word I never heard a word I turned the other way
Pacific Coast Party
Pacific Coast Party (Pacific Coast Party)
Pacific Coast Party
