This is the second video in a much larger project that I originally conceived back in 2005 or so. The materials and project files have been sitting on my hard drive for at least five years and I had not gotten around to starting work on the video because I lacked free time and I was reluctant to delve into a project so intensely depressing.
Then Isao Takahata died, which kicked me in the pants to begin work on the video and get it done. As fate would have it, I had recently started a new job with a long commute by train, giving me ample time to work on it, although it still took me a few weeks because it was difficult to stay in that dark zone for extended periods of time without a break.
Fair warning: this video has HUGE spoilers from frame one, so if you have not yet seen "Grave of the Fireflies" please do so now. Also, the video is extremely sad - my wife said it made her cry more than the film, perhaps because my intention, as with the other video in this series, was to introduce new anime fans to this older but brilliant work and to re-connect those familiar with the film to the feelings it induced.
