  • Comments: A few months ago, I saw on Equestria Daily a Twilight Sparkle/Spike video that was a My Little Pony version of the music video for Wilkinson's "Afterglow", which tells the tale of a couple that's been dating for five years and the various statistics about the five years they've been together. After checking out the original music video, I was wondering what would happen if someone tried to do an anime version of it, with me considering some possibilities for who could serve as the couple in the video. Eventually, I decided that if I was going to do a AMV version of the original music video, I should have the source be Pop Team Epic, a show that, given its format of each episode being basically a series of sketches, would hopefully mean plenty of material to fill in the various statistics.

Making the video, my plan was to try to have it match the original video as much as possible (be it scene choice or caption, with me trying to match the movements and timing of some captions to the original source as much as possible) while at the same time throwing in legit stats and the occasional silly scene. However, as I worked on it, I had to encounter a number of roadblocks. First, there's a number of scenes in the original music video that are pretty suggestive. Luckily, I was able work around the more "naughty" bits in a way that those who are familiar with the scene that I used would get how it serves as a Pop Team Epic parallel. Second, some scenes in the original video where I assumed I can easily find a Pop Team Epic scene to compliment it just weren't turning up. While I did eventually combed through the show to find some clips that would serve as possible material (and that would fit certain scenes in some way), I do admit that there's some parts where I could have done better if Pop Epic Team had a few more episodes and omake (i.e. I really wished I could have found a clip of Popuko and Pipimi at a party to compliment the "after party" scene).
