  • Comments: To get this out of the way first: I didn’t know about Zeonic Freak's "Once Upon a Time in Ganymede" video until the day after I finished editing it. A number of elements being similar to the beginning of his video (making the video in black and white, a few scene choices, and even the Bebop Law title) were just coincidences, with both of us having similar ideas.

During Otakon 2019, there were a couple of films that I wanted to check out that weekend. One of them was easily one of the best films of the year, while the other I didn't watch until months later and found it to be overrated. Good thing the Promare line closed before its official start time. Meanwhile, I checked Once Upon a Time In Hollywood Thursday afternoon after getting my 18+ wristband, and it definitely a fun romp (with me actually thinking about the possibility of someone doing a Rick Dalton cosplay).

Meanwhile, ever since I first got into AMV's, I really wanted to one set to Cowbop Bebop. Some ideas floated around in my head (and are still in consideration), while I did attempt to edit another idea in 2017, only for me to realize that it wasn't working. Thinking about the opening scene to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I thought it would be a cool idea to set that to Cowboy Bebop.

Naturally, the obvious reason for the pairing involves how both Cowboy Bebop and Bounty Law had the similar concept of bounty hunters. However, the other reason for doing this project was because to me, Spike is very much like the two main characters in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth. All three of them are cool guys who have flaws (Spike being destructive at times, Rick's alcohol problems, Cliff being pretty much blacklisted in Hollywood for some of his actions). However, deep down they are good people going through tough times.

Watching Zeonic Freak's video, I feel the big difference in terms of how each of us did the Bounty Law opening is the tone. Whereas Zeonic's take on it felt a little more "serious" to convey the idea of this being a TV show that Spike is starring in, I went with more with the approach of having the video represent the feel of Cowboy Bebop in general, and as such my version is a little more lighthearted.
