• Comments: So this was not actually the video I was planning to make this year.
  
  I hunted for roughly 2 or 3 weeks for a song to go with a big AMV idea I've had for a couple years now and along the way I found a whole pile of great new music that I saved to a playlist. About a month into editing my other idea I realized there was probably not going to be any possible way for me to complete it in any less than 6 months and there was just about a month and a half left until the NDK deadline.
  
  In my depression I went back to the playlist of music that I often listen to and while skipping around on random I came across this song again. It was at that moment where I'm like "...You fool. Edit THIS. You can make THIS." and finally connected the dots with my incredibly sludgy brain.
  
  I've been feeling super imposter syndrome-y regarding my editing in addition to having...let's call them emotional hang ups to not dive into the unpleasantness I've been experiencing for some time regarding them.
  I decided that the only way I'd allow myself to make this video is if I did so entirely incognito. The judging for NDK is already blind and I'm required to vote myself out if I'm in attendance for it, but I wanted layers. I didn't tell anyone what I was working on or even the genre of my video, I just edited. I eventually cracked near the end and showed one of my best homies a beta but that's really it.
  
  I felt like, if I could make it into the contest, with the odds stacked against me as I'm naturally required to vote against myself, and if I could perform well in the contest...then maybe, just maybe it would help me feel like less of a failure.
  
  And I did it. I've been going through a tough time lately emotionally so just having that small win, even if I didn't take my category, really helped remind me that maybe I'm not the absolute worst at all this? The odds were stacked against me but I still managed my goal and that's enough for me.
  
  
  As for the video itself, I've been watching Pokemon since it first debuted in America. I'm a 90s kid so I grew up with it. I fell off of the anime around Sinnoh as a lot of people did but I really dived back in with Sun and Moon (which I hated lol) and finally Journeys (which I didn't hate.) - Ya'll, if you haven't watched this last season of Pokemon, it's so fucking good. It starts off a little meandery but it develops into an amazing season and fantastic journey for Ash. It''s so rewarding as a fan to finally see him use everything he's learned over the years in battle while having this killer team. All the callbacks and rivals that make appearances while still having a silly good time make this season a blast.
  
  I really wanted a video that kinda captured that. It starts off more on the goofy side but as it goes on it slowly puts on it's serious face. There were still so many moments from the series I wanted to include but I struggled to include them all. I just wanted to try and give each of Ash's Pokemon a moment to look cool before ending on the big battle with Leon. I actually considered extending the song a couple times to focus more on that final battle but it became to repetitive so a lot of compromises were made and I decided to just stick to that final 1 on 1 as that was the first bit I put on the timeline.
  I also decided to not use any movies, promos, intros or endings in this video. While the animation in those pieces are beautiful and make for easy editing, I really wanted the focus to be on the series that stole my heart and gave OG Pokemon fans the win they deserved.
