  • Comments: My first anime-only music video. The inspiration for it first hit me in September of 1999, when I first heard the song by Cake on the radio. For me, it was so perfect for "Speed Racer" that I had originally thought that the live-action "Speed Racer" film was finally coming out, and that this was the first song from the soundtrack album. When I found out it wasn't, I was determined to associate the two together by making a music video.

    The perfect time came after A-Kon 8, my first anime con. I showed "Steam" at the dead dog party, just for the hell of it, and found out anime fans like music videos. So when I got back, and while I was deathly ill with a flu I had picked up at A-Kon, I called Taliesin over to assist me with the video. About a day and a half later, we were done.

    Incidentally, speaking of Taliesin, I have heard from a few people that he has been going around telling people that he did all the work, and all I did was look over his shoulder. Let me clarify that it was exactly the opposite. There. Now the truth really is out there....

    Anyway, footage capture took about half a day (13 hours of episodes to go though, and the editing itself took another day. Editing was done on my Amiga 3000 with VLab Motion card and MovieShop software.
