SH100 - we're finally there. And this is all there is to show for it?
The idea for a super-compilative tribute as SH100 began a ways back, probably around the start of 2005, when it became apparent that the mark was actually going to be reached in the near future. It gained favor over some other ideas when it became clear that SH100 would probably coincide almost exactly with the four-year anniversary of the studio, which varies in estimation, but is sometime between 21 and 28 May, depending on whether you want to count from "date of equipment acquisition" or "date of first video completion", and would have to be produced in Germany, probably before I could build up a new main-line editing rig.
Conceptually, this one is pretty simple: 1-2 cuts from every SH video ever, including demos, hentai videos, gore videos, SH008, which is listed under a different profile, and SH034, which sucks too bad to ever be released anywhere. Then it starts getting complex: the cut has to be Donut-worthy (which is why SH030 and SH090 have such weird representatives -- nothing else in those vids could go on local), has to roughly match the music in its assigned spot, and has to roughly flow or set up the next clip, from a completely different video. That's how this fairly simple endeavor took over 20 hours to completion, a lot of which was spent watching nearly 7 hours of SH videos live in real time to find those cuts in the first place.
No effects to speak of here; mostly just some gentle speed mods to make sure stuff lined up and included everything it was supposed to. Given the hardcore anti-effects stance of the early days, and the extent to which it still remains, it's fairly appropriate that SH100 is fundamentally built solely on straight-cuts.
The choice of "Amazing Grace" as the music also has some odd nostalgia value that the other candidate, a longer song from an eroge called Song that I could not track down any composer or title info for, did not; back when I was in high school, certain undesirable elements in the trumpet line (self included, of course) sang a version of this tune with extremely bizarre lyrics that, if you knew what the code words were, were pretty disgusting and somewhat racially offensive. If you know what "the Twelve" is (and odds are, you don't), you know the song.
Shin Hats Self-Grade: B/B-. It's a linear tribute; nothing really special about it any way you cut it.
stats: #clips: 233. avg length: 0.67 seconds. total time: 20.5 hours.
In addition to the 88 sources listed, there is one that is not; SH086 is represented by Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Menace, which nobody has yet entered into the site database. Since it's not anime, I kept up with the tradition.
