    - Track 3 from the (nonexistent) DDRMAX2 Project
    - Proof that Scintilla doesn't watch (enough) dance/FX videos

    This video also marks:

    - My first video done at 29.97 frames per second (all my others were edited at 24)
    - The third summer video I've done in a row that clocks in at under two minutes (the other two being "NERV Evening News..." and AEO:EB)
    - The first time I've had to use this version numbering system
    - The most test encodes I've ever done for one video (testing filters, trying to improve quality and compressibility as much as possible)

    Version 1 completed: 5/26/05
Version 1.1 update (some minor fixes, at least one scene replaced): 6/3/05
Version 1.2 update (one scene replaced): 6/16/05

    Reviews:
    "Pure sugary goodness." - IcyCloud
"If I was ever strung out on crack, I hope it would look like this." - Moonlight Soldier
"It's like an inside look of the place Osaka goes to when she gets that empty look in her eyes... And it makes me want to go there with her." - LenWidleheyt

    Notes:

"Waka Laka", by Jenny Rom vs. Zippers, from DDRMAX2 (Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix), is one of the most happy, upbeat, and nonsensical songs I know. I mean, read the lyrics -- doesn't it sound like a drug song?
So I figured, what better anime to set to it than Azumanga Daioh? ^_^

You can blame my LJ friends for getting me interested in this song in the first place: about 1-1.5 years ago, a whole bunch of them were complaining about how annoying it was.
My advice is to just give in and let the song slowly drive you crazy. >=)

    Additional notes available here.

    Lyrics:

Waka Laka's a thing to play forever
Just to be together (Just to be together)
Waka Laka's a place to be forever
    Waka Laka love and fantasy

    (Waka Laka, Waka Laka... etc.)

See Waka Laka when you need a flight of fantasy (Fantasy)
    Ecstasy (Ecstasy)
    Rhapsody (Rhapsody)
See Waka Laka when you want a love so tenderness (Tenderness)
    Waka Laka make you fly

See Waka Laka when you're going to feel so sad and blue (eh?)
    Just for you (oh yeah!)
    Never blue
See Waka Laka and a funny bunny'll free your life
    Now it's Waka Laka time

I wanna live (I wanna live)
A bright new day (A bright new day)
Go far away (Go far away)
    To Waka Laka place
A Waka time (A Waka time)
To feel so fine (To feel so fine)
    A Waka Laka flight

Waka Laka's a thing to play forever
Just to be together (Just to be together)
Waka Laka's so magical and tender
    Musical and wonder fantasy

Waka Laka's a never ending story
Glory, glory, glory (Glory, glory, glory)
Waka Laka's a place to be forever
    Waka Laka love and,
    Waka Laka love and,
    Waka Laka love and fantasy

    Warning:
This video contains oversaturation, hue cycling, AND white and colored flashes. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Please be sure to watch AMVs in a well-lit room, and don't sit too close to the monitor.

Thanks due to Brakus for finding me an uncompressed copy of the song. ^_^
And of course, thanks to Gambitt for the DDR arrows. :)

The other DDR-esque graphics (everything except the arrows) were taken from the .PNG files that come with Dance While Intoxicated With Intensity, a DDR simulator for the PC.

    Convention record:
Anime Expo 2005: Finalist in the Comedy category
    Animethon 12: Best Comedy/Parody
Animethon 12: Runner-up for Best Technical
Animethon 12: Runner-up for Judges' Choice Best Overall
    Otakon 2005: Winner, Upbeat/Rhythm category

    Please note:
The DIRECT linked version is only for visual quality whores who demand nothing less than full resolution and can't stand macroblocking and pixelation. (Like me.) Be warned, the average video bitrate is 2500kbps, and I wouldn't be surprised if some scenes cracked 3500kbps.
The LOCAL version is more reasonable, at an average video bitrate of 1560kbps.

But in general, this video was very annoying to compress, just because of the nature of the effects used. I couldn't get it under 10 MB per minute, which is my usual goal for standard distribution copies of my videos.
If any of the lip synch looks off, it may be the player skipping; try playing over the affected section again (this has happened on my own computer).
If you try the direct version and your computer can't handle it (it stutters too much to be viewable), get the local one. If it can't handle the local one, then contact me and I'll see what I can do about getting a low-res version encoded.

I had a lot of fun making this, and I hope it shows. Enjoy! ^_^
