  • Comments: SPEEEEED! Despite source issues, Shin Hatsubai video #12 featured the fastest editing on any SH production to date, with average clip length dropping well below 2 seconds. I wanted to do a Kite vid for the longest time, and went through several possible song choices, including stuff by In Flames and Blind Guardian, before arriving on this song by a ska-core band from my home town. BIOL is pretty good, this song has been the feature on comps with several much better known bands, and it fits Kite pretty well in terms of pacing as well as lyrics.

I will never do another remotely ska video ever again. The upbeat (2+4) emphasis plays absolute hell with any attempts at letting the video flow. Metal has lots of down-beat grind riffs, so it's a hell of a lot easier.

I'm surprised that I actually let myself put this video in the fall 2001 BAS demo video, because it's about as gory as a normal AMV (as opposed to a monument to utter sickness like video #30) can possibly be. The music is probably why, and probably also the fast edits; if you ignore the 14-second clip it opens off with, the average is like 1.6 seconds per clip, which is almost too fast for reasonable comprehension. If for some reason some con relaxes their rules about "not seeing people's heads blow up like giant red paintballs in AMVs", this video will be on its way there.

Shin Hats Self-Grade: A-. Because I didn't capture it myself, this video was a cast-iron bitch to finalize, and even though there are some degrades from the imperfect source, the hits are almost all there, the cuts work, and it's the fastest editing I have ever done, period.
Stats: #clips: 96. avg length: 1.79 sec. total time: 14 hours.

The video link has been moved to mediafire for greater stability. There are some additional note about the video and the hazards of working with local-band demos here.
