JOURNAL: SarahtheBoring (Sarah B')

  • Ohhh no, I found my org login. 2015-03-15 08:46:02 Finally. So there's that.

Not that the world was burning down with wondering, but what happened was:
    - moving house
    - a couple of computer failures / changeovers
    - realizing that I was slipping further behind the state of the art every second, to the point where I would never catch up
    - feeling discouraged about the local con, which is the only place I bothered submitting my stuff anymore
    - pouring more of my creative energy into other projects, namely my first novel:

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ONW1EEM

...and the Artist Alley table that I co-run.

(For the book, take the setting of Spice & Wolf and swap out 90% of the supernatural stuff for more bickering and slice-of-life-ishness. It's super-feelsy, I'm not gonna lie.)

(For the table, it's still anime teddy bears and such. We'll be at Tekko again in another month.)

I'm not against the idea of doing more videos someday, even though I am now ~15 years behind the state of the art instead of 10. It's still fun. We know that. So who knows? Hey, now that I can actually log in, I can watch videos outside of cons. And maybe despair, and maybe have fun, and probably both at the same time. Same as it ever was. I miss it, and apart from time management, there's nothing stopping me from trying again. :)

  • Ten years, man! Ten years! Ten! Ten yeeeeeeeeears!! Ten years! 2012-04-21 14:10:52 I realized this past week (while my internet was down) that I've been editing for 10 years as of this month. 10 years and 2 weeks, to be exact. Yeesh!

Yeah, my scores are still going down, I haven't evolved that much since the beginning, and I'm never going to be a real grown-up fancypants ~auteur~, but I've had fun.

I've gone to a bunch of screenings. I've tried out a lot more anime and music that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise. And though I didn't connect with the fandom, I did talk about editing with the hubs at our first no-pressure-OMG coffee date, so that has to count for something.

On the whole, I've had more fun than not. That's all I'm gonna ask for.

New video as of last weekend:

Working on a live-actioner now, so we'll see how that goes.

Oh, and since last time we've opened up this thing:

Be excellent to each other; party on. Dudes.
  • Reading is really hard, I know. Really, really hard. And stuff. 2011-06-23 19:16:41 QC for My Own True Love:

2011-06-22 02:37:03 Good character/song match, but some of those effects are hokey

    ...

They're supposed to be hokey. I said so right in the description. So IRONIC SUCCESS!, I guess. ...Ha, at the time (2004) that was the most complicated video I'd ever done. (Also, I hadn't even met my husband yet, I hadn't started doing Artists' Alley stuff, and I still worried about getting old. Heh...)

  • Like an AMV, except not! 2011-06-06 22:40:01 http://sarahtheboring.livejournal.com/692773.html

Second, perhaps last, perhaps not, Avatar:TLA video. Man, I had a lot of fun with this. I am still in my Screw Everything / Rule of Cool phase, apparently. This one is the attitudinal teenage daughter of "Offline" in more ways than one. (Not-upbeat not-action I-dunno-you-come-up-with-a-name genre, indefensible song choice, feminist theme...)

It almost LOOKS like an AMV for once - there are three things going on at once through half of the video, and I actually had a few "normal length" edits here and there, although most of it is still pretty slow. Ironically, it's not anime, and the style is an homage to a live-action (pro) music video. But it's edited a tiny bit more like an AMV than my usual fare. Still no special effects, though I did learn a lot overall. Baby steps!

Anyway, I had fun. The Matsuricon intro video is next. By powers outside my control, this will be my last time doing it, so I hope to do it well.

  • Rar! also Wah! and Aww! 2011-01-15 00:41:38 http://sarahtheboring.livejournal.com/680316.html

Finished an Avatar: The Last Airbender fanvid. So cheesy it HURTS. Man, that was all kinds of fun. Hee.

Next is probably the Matsuricon 2011 intro video, assuming they let us do it again.
