  CONCEPT:
  This is a dark comedy, somewhat childish at times, putting a fun twist on Light simply going along killing whomever he chooses.
  
  
  THE STORY:
  There really is not much of a traditional "narrative" to this video, which is quite different for me. Beyond getting the notebook at the beginning, it's just death... death... and more death. At the end of the day, it's a hard job... but somebody's gotta do it.
  
  
  MAKING THE VIDEO:
  The video is (obviously) split up into individual segments. The first and second verse are timed differently (due both to story-necessity and different emphasized musical elements), but both act as the same type of mood-setters; the choruses pick up the pace with that shit-eating-grin; the breakdown and bridge are totally different, showcasing a little bit more of the in-depth actions of Light.
  
  The first thing that came to mind in the video was the "drop" section of the bridge, which is about the only thing that remained the same from the original vision. The breakdown section was originally going to be some floating, feathered, cropped boxes of Light writing names while the names flew by both in front of and behind said boxes of video. Unfortunately, all of the scenes were too short to leave up floating around for any extended period that I could appropriately time to, so the hard cuts in the background (with a grainy film quality) came to be with the names floating around in the front. I think I actually prefer this implementation, anyway, so I'm glad that worked out.
  
  The choruses were originally going to be heavy effects sections... something involving multiple layers, some shaky-cam work, pulsing colors, and more. It felt like that was the direction it should go, since the music picks up so much more, and I hate to ignore such glaring musical differences by not doing something appropriate in the video. However, when these effects segments were dropped into the video (they were done, completed, finished, etc.)... it totally ruined the mood, and completely distracted the viewer. As such, I bit the bullet and removed the effects, realizing that being able to tell what is happening in the video is more important than random eye-candy.
  
  I made a couple very minor changes post-AWA. There's one cross-dissolve-timing fix in the beginning of the video, there's one minor scene change towards the end of the video, a slight zoom was placed on one clip, and the timing on the "drops" segment has been tightened up. Otherwise, it's exactly the same.
  
  This video was made with Adobe Premiere 6.5, Adobe After Effects 6.5, and Adobe PhotoShop CS.
  
  
  CONCLUSION:
  This video was submitted to Anime Weekend Atlanta's Professional AMV contest in 2007. Despite receiving no nominations, during the convention's awards ceremony, the video started off the Pro awards section with a title screen reading something like "Honorable Mention... Because We Can!" Many thanks go out to the AWA/VAT staff for finding sick pleasure in this video the same way I do! It was also played during Iron Editor later that evening, with the audience taking turns censoring out the word "shit" with "quack" and "moo" sound effects; again, yet another amazing experience.
