This video is the convergence of the influences of so many different individual editors and videos that I couldn't even begin to list them all; although most directly, this video owes its existence to a little AMV from 2004 called Phantasmagoria, by an editor named Requiett. It's a video I've always enjoyed, although it hasn't aged well in the slightest (if you're reading this Requiett, I'm sorry!). But I always liked the ambitious nature of the editing in that video, and always thought Macross Plus had so many weird scenes that not enough editors really pushed in their own work. In other words, it's an anime ripe for experimentation despite its age, and I was feeling up to trying something completely different from anything I'd ever made before.

I never intended to copy Phantasmagoria's concept, but if there's a story here I'm afraid I kind of ended up doing exactly that (sorry again dude -- I've never had an original thought in my life and don't intend to start now). Think of this as the 2021 update to that video, maybe. I don't know. All I know is that this was super fun to make, and I ended up actually learning things about Vegas that I had never bothered to learn before despite having been using the program for 15 years now. I've been wanting to make something psychedelic and experimental for a while, and I've always been interested in the idea of repeating scenes in an AMV in a way that is interesting and not sloppy. (I have tried this before to arguable success, but this one is completely different.) This video is merely my attempt to do these things in a way you haven't seen before. I don't really know if I succeeded, but I think the result is weird and singular enough that I'm satisfied.

Thank you for watching, as always, and enjoy!

    Technical notes:
Edited in Sony Vegas 8.0 (I've downgraded from 15.0, which is the glitchiest piece of software I think I've ever used. I gave it two years, I'm done) in 15-20 hours over the course of a week. I spent an additional hour or two after the AWA Pro contest was done fixing a bunch of stuff that had been bothering me, so if you saw it in that contest there are some minor differences between what I submitted there and this release version. I think it's actually quite a bit better now though!
