If you have not seen Eizouken I do not recommend this video. It will not be as enjoyable...?

I recommend watching the video first as many of the notes below may spoil the content.

    Video content notes

    0. This may be the strangest video I have ever made. A sentimental not-quite-comedy parody? Does that even make sense?

    1. Key points:
    - The title word "lied" is pronounced as lied as in liar (not whatever the pronunciation in the "Elfen Lied" title is, ha)
    - Deadman Wonderland came after Elfen Lied (I know I know...)
    - The subtitles in the video are NOT accurate. This is intentional.

    2. Eizouken is a great show celebrating imagination and the will the create/succeed. I was a bit disappointed by the hurdles being barreled through and failure never playing any role. Mizusaki ends up with no specific issues with her parents and continues right on. In my re-imagining(ha) things definitely are a bit darker and it is implied that her real emotions are expressed by the lyrics and animation of Elfen Lied, forcing her parents to acknowledge her experience.

    3. My initial idea was, "what if they made a different anime, a more extreme anime?" Elfen Lied was the immediate obvious choice. I tossed in the sentimental bits to allow for a retelling of the story, as though Eizouken somehow deceived viewers with the very friendly anime creations (pssssh, lies!).

    4. There are some little extras from Elfen Lied sprinkled into the video (some are very obvious while others are not).

    5. Masking wise this video was probably a lot less than Potential Energy (but still a lot). Coming up with ways to mix the Eizouken auditorium with Elfen Lied was too much fun. I basically just came up with a "shopping list" of clips to find in Elfen Lied based on every interaction the audience has with a component of the anime created in Eizouken. The shell being replaced with the head was my first idea.

    6. Is this a parody? Yes, buuuuut... As I worked on the video more I found myself feeling a lot of sympathy towards Mizusaki and wanted to explore the pressure of her life and holding in her emotions. The final section of the video (post-credits), while intentionally semi-comical, honestly could be very realistic for some people in that state of mind.

    7. The original song idea for the Elfen Lied section was going to be In Denial by Butcher Babies (guessing 1:34-2:20 of the song). It could have worked well. Paralyzed is such a great song so I had little choice. I have also found that I really like Conquer Divide. They have two great albums (Paralyzed is from a brand new one) and a couple of good singles.

    8. The intro song is: "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper (Bioshock Carnival Organ Cover)

    Technical notes

Software used: Adobe Premiere 2023 and Adobe Photoshop

    - I used Photoshop for masking and used the very useful "minimum" filter to darken some lines on sketches.

... if I think of anything else I will add it ...

Enjoy! ...if you like this type of video.
