  • Comments: My favorite album of the past ten years is probably Gymnastics by Sneaks. I'm sure I've probably listened to it more than any other album during that time--an honor that's not reflected at all in my Last.fm statistics because my ipod stopped scrobbling altogether between 2017 and 2019, not to mention how often I was playing the CD in my car, taking away countless potential plays that would have been logged if I'd been streaming the album instead--often playing it two or three times in a row. This is not a particularly impressive feat given that its ten songs don't even add up to fifteen minutes in length. Based on that alone, I expect that many people wouldn't want to call it an "album" at all, but it feels so complete and fulfilling to me that I can't bring myself to think about it as an "EP." Anyway, this album really clicked for me in a way that it didn't really seem to for anyone else. This should have been a 2010s classic, but it never got the push it needed to win over listeners who need to be told what's good and cool and even okay to like. Most of my other favorite albums are well-known classics that have huge, largely irritating fanbases, so having this one seemingly to myself is not a terrible problem to have.

My original goal was to create an AMV for every song on the album. I think this was a very achievable ambition, but as you can see I have fallen quite short in reaching it. I figured it would be helpful to think of these as low-stakes edits, which would remove any sense of pressure and make it easier to wrap each of them up fairly quickly and move on to the next. But I found it difficult to continue trying to work on new videos while these remained unpublished, always calling out to me for additional tweaks and revisions. Having these laying around was beginning to prove distracting, and I wasn't going to be able to focus on any new projects until these were out of my hands and finally released. So while I wanted this to be longer, this is all there there is for now.

The segment featuring "Chio's School Road" was submitted to the PRO contest in 2019. All the other parts were created in the years that followed and have never been released.

Thanks to Nashironeko for upscaling the two parts that I originally edited in 720p for some reason.

This is the first AMV I've ever made that includes any kind of in-video credits. The font used was Optician Sans. The end credits song is NOT from Gymnastics but a one-off song released exclusively via Amazon (invalidating my end credits claim that all the music can, indeed, be found on the artist's Bandcamp page).
