  • Comments: This video was made in order to practice for the Iron Editor competition at AWA XI (2005).

    CONCEPT:
In order to practice for Iron Editor, Meri and I decided we both needed to try making videos in two hours each. However, if we were to both make videos, we wouldn't be able to individually give ourselves a secret video ingredient. In order to still have some element of surprise, we decided that we would prepare audio for each other, and the editor would not know what this audio was until they actually sat down to edit for the two hours.

The sources used were selected on the basis of Meri wanting to make a fun, shoujo video. I prepared the first closing theme of Kodomo no Omocha ("Panic!") for her to use. Once she was done, we both decided it would be really funny if I had to make a flat-out drama video using the exact same sources that she just used to make a silly, fun video.

    So I did.

    THE STORY:
Since I didn't know where I was going with the video until the two hours began, I didn't know what kind of story I was going to be telling. It's completely made up as it goes along. At the beginning, the young ladies are all wondering about their men (who are they, where are they, when will they... whatever). Then the nice young men make their moves, and everyone's happy. And then, for some reason (I think mainly because I'm just a jackass, and somewhat because the footage worked nicely), all of the guys leave at the end. Minus that really happy looking final shot. I like to think that Tamahome's leaving her stranded there on the ground. That's more amusing to me.

    MAKING THE VIDEO:
Uhh... I made the video in two hours. As noted, I didn't even know which song I was going to be using until those two hours began. Luckily, it was a very fun song to edit to (in fact, I'd even like to do a real, full video to it... and yes, it's an acoustic cover of the Ashlee Simpson song). You'll notice the one giant macroblocking-to-Hell in one of the Fushigi Yuugi scenes (Tamahome catching the rock). Well, since I only had two hours, I consider that part of the video... I didn't get to fix it then, and I don't get to fix it now! I believe I actually finished the video in a little over an hour and a half, and had about twenty minutes to just sit and tweak. That made me feel really good about the actual competition at AWA (even though we ended up taking one hour and fifty-nine minutes there >.>).

    CONCLUSION:
I... genuinely like this video. A lot. It's (obviously) really short and not as coherent as I would like a real video to be, but dammit, I still like it! Hopefully someone else will get a kick out of it, too.

This video premiered at my panel at AWA XI (2005), together with Meri's own practice video. We would be competing against Hsien Lee (Kusoyaro Productions) in the Iron Editor competition the next day at the convention. We won... o_o;;.

    LYRICS:
On a Monday, I am waiting.
    Tuesday, I'm fading.
And by Wednesday, I can't sleep...

Then the phone rings, I hear you,
and the darkness is a clear view,
'cuz you've come to rescue me.

Fall, for you I fall so fast.
I can hardly catch my breath,
    I hope it lasts...

    (Ooooohhh...)
It seems like I can finally rest my head on something real.
I like that way that feels.

    (Ooooohhh...)
It seems you know me better than I ever knew myself.
I love how you can tell...

All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me...
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me...
