    What They Say:

"WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN" - Sarah the Boring
"My first reaction upon watching it was to fall over dying with laughter every three seconds. Geass was *asking* for that." - Psiten
"'D HANDY'? Seriously?! That is like the stupidest thing ever." - Cyanna

    What I Say:

Consider yourselves Geassed. (Don't know the moves? Don't worry, they're easy!)

This video is an example of what I can do when I have more than two weeks between an actuarial exam and a contest deadline to put together something.
A word of thanks is due to Ashyukun, who introduced me to DJ Ötzi with his amazing GAiNAX tribute video "Bouncing Through the Years". Also to Cyanna, who alerted me to the fact (after I had already discovered this song) that this song is basically a dance version of a camp song she knew from her childhood.

If you watched Bandai Visual's R1 release of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, then you probably noticed how pizza is everywhere in this series, and you may have wondered why. On the other hand, if you watched the original R2 release, then you KNOW why -- the Pizza Hut product placement was ubiquitous and unavoidable.
Well, once I discovered this song, it seemed like a no-brainer -- and then I did a Super Search and discovered that no one had done it yet. Well, I know an unfilled need when I see one...

Don't blame me if the song gets stuck in your head. I make no apologies.
... Except maybe to people from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; because this song made the top 10 in those three countries back in 2003, so they've probably already heard it quite enough for one lifetime.

    Some notes on conventions.
This is not the version of the video that was shown at Anime Expo. That version was a bit rushed to get out the door in time for the 5/1 deadline. I've made numerous improvements since then.
This is not the version of the video that was shown at Otakon. That version had to be censored somewhat (I mangled the corporate logos that weren't in the original footage) to make sure there would be no legal issues.
Except for a barely noticeable tweak or two, this IS the version that was shown at Japan Expo International.

    More specific notes follow:

0:27: If you don't understand why I threw this shot in there, I suggest you Bing the word "Spinzaku".

0:42: The building on the right originally belonged to Biglobe (a Japanese web search engine). Could you tell?

0:44: The stick figures come from the insert of the CD-single (that image I linked earlier is scanned straight from it), which contains four versions of this song, plus DJ Ötzi's remake of "Summer of '69" as a B-side. It's sadly out of print, but you can still find it for sale if you look. Here's one place. So, if you don't know the dance, pay attention to the stick figures, and you should know what to do by the time the chorus rolls around again!

1:09: Okay, here's one Pizza Hut logo that was NOT in the original footage.

1:15: I wanted to put something different here, really I did... but I never managed to find another shot of someone yelling that matched up as well as this one.

1:26: This scene still makes me want to giggle. He's doing the dance! He wasn't quite doing that in the original footage!

    1:37: STAR WIPE!!!

1:40: This was one of the first scenes I conceived of in my brain when starting to plan out this video, and no objection from Cyanna was going to get me to change it. :P

1:45: Yes, I *did* have Sgt. Frog on the brain in the latter stages of editing this video. Why do you ask?
And the patriotic marching bit may seem a little out of nowhere, but what else was I supposed to do here?

1:53: You call it "fan pandering". I call it "matching the marching theme" -- and tell me this, what could be more fitting for a fast food song than seeing Alfred scarfing down those burgers?

2:06: Lelouch's gone mad with power!

2:10: ... no, he's really lost it now.

2:19: If you don't get how this is following the dance ("paint[ing] a big M"), then you weren't paying enough attention to the stick figures.

2:24: So, here's where I make it blatantly obvious.

2:28: A treat for the Utena fans. Everyone else will wonder why this is supposed to be funny.

2:32: Yes, I *am* a horrible person when I'm trying to make a funny video.

2:35: Bet you thought you'd never see someone manage to use footage from the Japanese prize giveaway announcements in an AMV, did you?

2:40: I suggest AltaVistaing "Emperocket" if you wish to know more.
